Inspired by the tender bond between mother and young in the wild, the 1998 Mother's Day Plate features a particularly appealing picture of an Emperor Penguin with her chick. American artist Les Didier was specially commissioned to create the art for this 30th edition plate, which is produced in bas-relief and hand-decorated under the glaze. Also available is a matching figurine by Pia Langelund, which is similarly hand-painted underglaze.
